Freeze (Cryo)
The Freeze team and the Frozen Elemental Reaction require both Cryo and Hydro to be applied to enemies with the goal of immobilizing them, making them unable to harm the player.
Freeze teams with Cryo Main DPS characters can also typically gain up to 55% CRIT Rate while the enemies are Frozen through making use of the Blizzard Strayer 4-set effect and Cryo Resonance.
It is technically possible to use Chongyun's Elemental Burst to infuse any Claymore, Sword or Polearm wielding character's Normal and Charged Attacks with Cryo and then use them as a Main DPS in a Freeze team.
This page contains Freeze teams with a Cryo Main DPS character.

On-Field DPS
Works best paired with Mona. Xingqiu requires Ganyu to weave Normal Attacks between her Charged Attacks in order for Xingqiu's Elemental Burst Rain Swords to attack the enemy resulting in an awkward playstyle when paired with him.
Frozen status on enemies allows Ayaka's Elemental Burst to stop on them, allowing all hits of the ability to land.
Core Support / Off-Field DPS
Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst are the primary sources of Hydro application to enable Frozen Elemental Reactions.
Amplifies all DMG with the Omen that is applied on enemies from her Elemental Burst.
Omen is applied to enemies immediately on using Mona's Elemental Burst. It lasts up to 5 seconds after the Illusory Bubble pops. The Frozen status on enemies prevents the bubble from popping allowing Freeze teams to extend Omen up to a maximum of 13 seconds.
C1 increases Frozen duration by 15% which in turn increases Omen duration.
Mona's Elemental Burst unlike in most other teams is usually not used for damage in Freeze team compositions.
Can hold Thrilling tales of Dragon Slayer to buff DPS characters
Elemental Burst applies AoE Hydro in a wide field, pairs well with Ganyu and Venti.
Elemental Skill uses Normal Attacks to quickly apply Hydro to enemies in a Freeze team
Elemental Burst can consistently provide the Hydro needed in a Freeze team given the Main DPS uses Normal Attacks frequently.
As such, Yelan is not as highly recommended when paired with Ganyu.
Elemental Burst can provide a significant buff to DPS characters.
Elemental Burst can consistently provide the Hydro needed in a Freeze team given the Main DPS uses Normal Attacks frequently
As such, Xingqiu is not as highly recommended when paired with Ganyu.
Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst also deal a large amount of Hydro DMG on their own when properly geared.
Elemental Skill can provide enough Hydro application to enable Frozen Elemental Reactions.
Fills the healer role as well, freeing up a slot for an additional Flex Support character alongside a Cryo Flex Support character needed for Cryo Resonance.
Can hold Thrilling tales of Dragon Slayer to buff DPS characters
Generally not an ideal source of Hydro application for Freeze teams as most of her abilities do not apply Hydro Off-Field. She is best avoided unless you absolutely have no other options.
Barbara's single source of Off-Field Hydro application is using her Elemental Skill and then sticking very close to enemies.

Flex Support
Anemo Supports are preferred here to provide debuffing with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set and to help maintain the Frozen status on enemies by infusing their Elemental Bursts with Cryo or Hydro.
Elemental Burst provides the strongest Grouping Crowd Control effect in the game.

Elemental Skill infuses Normal and Charged Attacks by Claymore, Sword and Polearm weapons within the field created with Cryo. This allows attacks by Rosaria and Kaeya to deal Cryo DMG instead of Physical DMG.
Traveler can still be helpful by providing debuffing with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set and Grouping Crowd Control.
Healer / Shielder
Usually the healer of choice in Freeze teams due to being able to provide Cryo Resonance and act as an Energy Battery as well as provide useful Shielding.
Provides both healing and AoE Hydro application through Elemental Skill.
Allows Cryo Resonance and Anemo Support to still easily be added to the team with the 2 left over character slots.

When Diona is not available, Jean can be used instead to provide Anemo Support and healing for the team, freeing up a character slot to still enable Cryo Resonance.
Allows for Cryo Resonance and provides a shield.
Does Off-Field DMG.
Provides Cryo Particles for Ganyu/Ayaka.
Provides Cryo Resonance to the team alongside healing.
Elemental Skill can periodically apply Cryo to enemies that come close enough to the active character although should not be relied on due to the slow application rate.
Elemental Skill can periodically apply Hydro to enemies that come close enough to the active character although should not be relied on as the only source of Hydro application.

Should generally be avoided in Freeze teams as his abilities may cause Melt reactions and interfere with keeping enemies Frozen.
Should generally be avoided as Zhongli's Geo DMG from his Elemental Skill will break enemies out of their Frozen status.
When Diona is not available, Sayu can be used instead to provide Anemo Support and healing for the team, freeing up a character slot to still enable Cryo Resonance.
The healer you use when you have no other options available.
Sample Team Compositions
Also called Morgana, this is the classic Freeze team focused around utilizing Ganyu, Mona, and Venti's Elemental Bursts.
Mona's Omen causes enemies to take more damage.
Venti's Elemental Burst, when infused with Cryo, guarantees that Mona's Illusiory Bubble is frozen, extending its duration.
Against enemies that can be lifted, Venti's Elemental Burst gathers enemies, allowing Ganyu's Elemental Burst's Ice Shards to deal significant damage.
Ayaka Freezes enemies with her Elemental Burst, Normal and Charged Attacks until Xingqiu's Elemental Burst expires; at which case, the supports are rotated through.
Diona for Cryo Resonance and to act as an Energy Battery for Ayaka.
Xingqiu applies Hydro when Ayaka performs a Normal Attack.
Kazuha for Viridescent Venerer's debuff and Kazuha's Elemental DMG buff.
Ayaka Freezes enemies with her Elemental Burst, Normal and Charged Attacks, utilizing the Hydro application from Kokomi's Elemental Skill.
Kokomi both applies Hydro and acts as a Healer in this composition, freeing up a slot for another Support.
Kazuha uses Viridescent Venerer's debuff and grants an Elemental DMG buff.
Shenhe increases Cryo DMG, buffs Elemental Burst DMG, debuffs Cryo RES, and acts as an Energy Battery for Ayaka.
