Hu Tao's A4 buffs her Pyro DMG when she is below 50% HP. This can make playing Hu Tao with Healers such as Bennett difficult. Often shielding such as Zhongli, Diona or Thoma is used instead.
It is also difficult to Swirl Pyro on Hutao teams without a 2nd Pyro characters such as Thoma or Amber. Other Off-Field DPS characters can be used if you do not have a 2nd Pyro character.

On-Field DPS
Works best paired with Xingqiu as every Charged Attack from Hutao can be Vaporized while Xingqiu's Elemental Burst is active.
Hu Tao cannot easily apply Pyro for Anemo Supports to Swirl without using her Elemental Skill or Elemental Burst. As such, a second Pyro character is included in teams that utilize them.
Works best paired with Xingqiu as every Elemental Skill and Pyro-infused Normal Attack can be Vaporized while Xingqiu's Elemental Burst is active.
Yanfei's regular rotation of 3 Normal Attacks → 1 Charged Attack will work with Xingqiu's Elemental Burst and allow her to Vaporize every Charged Attack alongside some of her Normal Attacks.
While Yanfei's Elemental Burst is active, Yanfei can run into issues where her Pyro application overwhelms Xingqiu's ability to apply Hydro when doing 2 Normal Attacks → 1 Charged Attack.
Yoimiya's Elemental Skill converts her Normal Attacks into dealing Pyro DMG. Her 5th Normal Attack does significantly more than her other attacks, so the main priority is to Vaporize that hit.
Yoimiya's Pyro-infused Normal Attacks can be Vaporized due to the lengthy reaction cooldown associated with them
Below C6, Bennett can work similarly to Diluc when paired with Xingqiu to Vaporize every usage of Bennett's Elemental Skill.
Bennett & Xingqiu are also often used alongside Chongyun to allow Bennett's normally Physical Normal Attacks to be infused with Cryo and cause Freeze and Melt to occur.
Klee often applies Pyro too fast for Xingqiu's Elemental Burst to keep up with. This can cause Xingqiu to trigger the Vaporize reaction rather than Klee, resulting in a loss of DPS if your Xingqiu is not geared.
Klee can work well with the buff provided by Mona's Elemental Burst to amplify her raw Pyro DMG for a short period of time, resulting in a more burst DMG-focused playstyle.
Typically, this results in closer to a Pure Pyro team composition and playstyle where Mona is a DMG amplifier and not utilized as much for Elemental Reactions.
Core Support / Off-Field DPS
Plays an almost irreplaceable core role in a reverse Vaporize team.
Applies Hydro incredibly frequently with his Elemental Burst allowing Pyro DPS characters to Vaporize their attacks, which amplifies their DMG.
Xingqiu's Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst also deal a large amount of Hydro DMG on their own when he is properly geared.
Applies Hydro frequently with her Elemental Burst allowing MOST Pyro DPS characters to Vaporize their attacks.
Provides a buff for the active character and gets stronger over time.
Kokomi's Elemental Skill can provide enough Hydro application for some Pyro On-Field DPS to consistently Vaporize.
Kokomi's Hydro application is not as frequent as Xingqiu's Elemental Burst. Some situations will overwhelm Kokomi's Hydro application rate and result in a loss of DPS.
Kokomi can also function as a Healer, potentially opening a slot in the party.
Mona cannot apply Hydro as often as Xingqiu which will often result in Pyro DPS characters being unable to Vaporize consistently. Any Vaporizes being triggered correctly are typically by accident.
Mona's primary use is to boost DMG through the application of Omen caused by her Elemental Burst which can be used to boost Klee's Charged Attack DMG or the Elemental Bursts of the other Pyro DPS characters.
Her Elemental Burst itself also deals massive DMG and Crowd-Controls enemies.
Ayato's Elemental Burst can apply Hydro to enemies in a large area, but cannot apply Hydro as often as Xingqiu which will often result in Pyro DPS characters being unable to Vaporize consistently.
Flex Characters
Increases party Elemental DMG and can group enemies with his Elemental Skill.
As an Anemo Support, he can be run with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set to decrease Pyro and Hydro RES.
Some Anemo Supports can help supplement the slow Hydro application of characters like Mona by infusing their Elemental Bursts, allowing the Pyro On-Field DPS to Vaporize more often.
Can increase party Elemental Mastery at C2
Increases party Elemental Mastery and can group enemies with her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
As an Anemo Support, she can be run with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set to decrease Pyro and Hydro RES.
Some Anemo Supports can help supplement the slow Hydro application of characters like Mona by infusing their Elemental Bursts, allowing the Pyro On-Field DPS to Vaporize more often.
Can increase party Elemental DMG at C6
Elemental Burst is very good at grouping enemies.
Provides a strong shield and debuffs Elemental RES.
Can buff the team's ATK when equipped with the Tenacity of Millelith 4-set.
Teams with Zhongli may not require a dedicated Healer since Zhongli's shield is incredibly strong when properly geared and Xingqiu can provide what little healing is required.
Elemental Burst increases the Elemental Mastery of character in the party, allowing Vaporize to do more DMG.
Contributes Off-Field Geo DMG with his Elemental Skill.
Can group enemies with their Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
As an Anemo Support, they can be run with Dthe Viridescent Venerer 4-set to decrease Pyro and Hydro RES.
Some Anemo Supports can help supplement the slow Hydro application of characters like Mona by infusing their Elemental Bursts, allowing the Pyro On-Field DPS to Vaporize more often.
Elemental Burst further decreases enemy Elemental RES at C6
Healer / Shielder
Buffs the ATK of characters standing within the field created by Bennett's Elemental Burst.
Will usually be carrying Noblesse Oblige 4-set to further buff the ATK of party members.
Can be used as an Energy Battery for the On-Field DPS.
Together with the Pyro On-Field DPS, he can enable Pyro Resonance.
As an Anemo Support, she can be run with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set to decrease Pyro and Hydro RES.
If an Anemo Support is already present, she can also carry the Noblesse Oblige 4-set to buff the ATK of party members.
Provides a strong shield and debuffs Elemental RES.
Can buff the ATK of party members when equipped with the Tenacity of Millelith 4-set.
The team may not require a dedicated Healer since Zhongli's shield is incredibly strong when properly geared and Xingqiu can provide what little healing is required.
Provides shielding with her Elemental Skill.
Can buff Elemental Mastery at C6 and ATK by carrying the Noblesse Oblige 4-set.
Diona can apply Cryo to the Hydro aura on enemies with her Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst, causing them to become Frozen and allowing your Pyro DPS to occasionally trigger Melt reactions. However, this is not a consistent reaction to rely on.
As an Anemo Support, she can be run with the Viridescent Venerer 4-set to decrease Pyro and Hydro RES.
Provides additional AoE Hydro application from Off-Field. Note that this is significantly slower than Xingqiu's rate of Hydro application.
Can buff the ATK of party members when equipped with the Tenacity of Millelith 4-set.
She can also hold the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers catalyst to further buff the ATK of the On-Field DPS.
Can hold the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers catalyst to further buff the ATK of the On-Field DPS.
Barbara's Elemental Skill can apply Hydro to enemies that come close enough to the active character. However, this should not be relied on as a reliable source of Hydro application.
Other Healers or Shielders typically provide more utility than Barbara but she is a decent free option if you do not have any alternatives.
Provides no major utility outside of healing.
Provides shielding with his Elemental Skill and Elemental Burst.
Together with the Main Pyro DPS, he can enable Pyro Resonance.
Buffs Normal Attack and Charged Attack DMG at C6.
Provides no major utility outside of healing and weak shielding.
Though she could enable Geo Resonance, Noelle should generally be avoided as she cannot heal Off-Field.
Sample Team Compositions

Xingqiu and Yelan provides the Off-Field Hydro application for Hu Tao and also provides DMG Reduction.
Zhongli provides an Elemental RES debuff with his shield while also protecting the team.
Using both Xingqiu and Yelan gives the team Hydro Resonance obtaining HP% bonus for increase Hutao DMG.
