On-Field DPS

An On-Field DPS character is one that deals a significant amount of damage while being actively used on the field. Teams that use an On-Field DPS character will often see this character make the largest contribution to overall team damage output due to the large amount of consistent damage they can dish out.
It is not necessary to actually run an On-Field DPS character in your team although most teams in Genshin Impact will choose to do so due to needing to fill down time while all the abilities of characters in your team are cooling down.
Most On-Field DPS characters will use Normal Attacks and/or Charged Attacks to deal damage, often boosting these with elemental reactions from their Supports or other Off-Field DPS abilities to further increase their damage.
Some On-Field DPS characters are often called Selfish, Greedy or Ultra/Hyper Carries or other similar terminology due to possessing hard requirements to stay on the field to deal damage and suffering major setbacks when switched off of.
Do not use more than 1 On-Field DPS per team. Some On-Field can operate in other roles, typically as Burst DPS, but you should only have at most 1 character operating as the On-Field in your team.
In teams using these characters, it is recommended to invest in your On-Field character first as they deal the bulk of the team's damage. Supports in these teams may only require minimal investment up front (e.g. to reach the recommended Energy Recharge %). Further investment into supports can continue once satisfied with the On-Field character's damage output.
Check out the character's page to see how the character works and functions in a team.

Technically, all characters can potentially be used as On-Field DPS but in general, you will find yourself dealing less damage when using them as such compared to the On-Field DPS characters listed above.
This includes off-meta builds such as DPS Jean, Zhongli or Rosaria.
The following characters listed below can be used as On-Field DPS characters in a pinch when you do not have access to other characters but are also not recommended long term.
